Laurel Wright:
Education: B.A. Architecture, University of California, Berkeley, Ca, May, 1982;
Ms. Wright currently works as Chief Accessibility Code Consultant for the NC Dept of Ins/OSFM in Raleigh. Her primary responsibility includes enforcement of the North Carolina Accessibility Code for all commercial and state-owned property within the state. Her 27 years experience include ten years as a building code consultant for an international fire protection engineering firm on the west coast where she worked on large assembly, resort, business, and mixed-used occupancy projects ranging in location from Seattle to Mexico, and Texas to Guam. She was Assistant Fire Marshal at Stanford University before returning to North Carolina in1996, and holds North Carolina Level III Inspector certifications in both Building and Fire.

R. Christopher Mathis:
(President, Mathis Consulting Company) has over 25 years experience in the building industry, specifically focused on the performance of buildings and building materials – particularly energy performance. Chris holds a Master’s Degree in Architectural Science from MIT where his graduate work focused on energy use in buildings. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in Physics. He has served on the International Energy Conservation Code Committee for three terms (1997, 2003 and 2005). Chris is a founding member of the National Fenestration Rating council and served as its first Director for 4 years. He is an active participant in code and standards development at ASHRAE, having served on its 90.1 standards committee for the past 6 years. He has authored over 30 articles and technical papers on an array of building science subjects ranging from insulation test methods to new building codes. He has conducted workshops for over 10,000 builders, building inspectors, architects and others in the building industry on a variety of building science topics ranging from insulation performance, window performance, material science, code compliance and building product warranties. He is a featured speaker and educator at numerous conference and symposia including Affordable Comfort, EEBA, ASHRAE and others. |
Marjorie L. Meares:
(Associate, Mathis Consulting Company) has over 20 years experience in environmental policy, regulatory enforcement and education. She holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Public Policy Studies and Environmental Studies from Duke University and University of North Carolina at Asheville, respectively. She conducted researcher at the Environmental Quality Institute at UNCA and taught courses in Environmental Science, Air Quality and Energy & Society. She worked 10 years in the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources in the Water Quality and Air Quality Divisions. Recently, she has developed and implemented an educational program for Realtors® on environmental issues in real estate resulting in the first Board of Realtors certification for its members on environmental issues. She was the founding Executive Director of the Clean Air Community Trust, a local educational non-profit. |
